Parents and Partners – Working together to support children

I strongly believe in a quote from Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

I am the product of a great traditional public school upbringing through IPS. My parents believed in the best education for their children. Now, I am a grandparent who has welcomed school choice for my grandchildren. I feel so blessed to be able to share that same enthusiasm and knowledge with all of our families throughout Indianapolis as they navigate through the process of finding a great school for their children.

We’ve witnessed a societal shift where the old model of parental engagement, which only included mothers, has been replaced with a much broader approach of school, family, and community partnerships. This new approach seeks to engage mothers, fathers, step-parents, grandparents, foster parents, other relatives and caregivers, business leaders and community groups.

In addition to the vital roles that parents play in education, through Enroll Indy’s community partnerships and efforts, we also want to be the conduit that helps strengthen families and build community support.

Enroll Indy’s approach is both inclusive and accessible. We want everyone to have the opportunity to send their child to a school that is the right fit for them. Maybe it’s a third grader who loves math or a freshman who is gifted in art – at Enroll Indy, we can help that child be anything and go anywhere.

On November 18, we will officially launch the Enroll Indy School Finder app. It’s a user-friendly tool that has a wealth of information about public schools in the IPS boundaries. I urge you to be on the lookout for it, and download it in advance of the IPS enrollment deadline, which is January 6, 2017.
